BEACONUAV OPERATIONS DOCS // V2.4
FIELD MANUAL / 22

Roles & permissions

Who can do what in a squadron: owner, manager and member, plus per-member grants and role templates.

Squadron access is role-based, and it's enforced by BeaconUAV itself: the app hides what you can't do, and the server has the final say.

The three roles

RoleWho
OwnerCreated the squadron. Full control, including member management and deleting the squadron.
ManagerTrusted co-admin. Runs the fleet day-to-day; can't delete the squadron or manage owners.
Member (Pilot)Flies, logs, contributes gear. Access to ledger and analytics only when granted.

Tip:

The exact, server-resolved version of this matrix is what the app uses. Your effective permissions come from the server on every page, so what you see is always what you can do.

Per-member grants

Owners can flip two switches on individual members in the manage console:

  • Gear editing: allow a member to add/edit squadron gear (on by default).
  • Ledger access: let a member see the squadron ledger and failure analytics.

These apply per member, so you can trust one pilot with the ledger without opening it to everyone.

Role templates

For larger squads, role templates bundle those switches into named presets (e.g. "Mechanic" = gear editing + ledger). Assign a template to a member and their access follows it. Change the template, and everyone with it updates together.

Info:

Custom templates and per-member switches are reflected in the permission matrix above as "with grant". The server resolves your effective permission on each request.
